Great interest in PUR insulation at Building Green

Construction and Environmental Benefits

Our representatives were ready at the PUR Section’s stand to answer questions about the construction and environmental benefits of using polyurethane (PUR) and polyisocyanurate (PIR) for insulation in building projects.

"It is my impression that the use of PUR and PIR as insulation in construction is still a relatively new concept for many, but the interest in this sustainable and efficient insulation material is definitely growing," says Kim Hansen from Tinby Skumplast.

The use of cellular plastic as insulation in façade elements makes it possible to construct highly insulated houses with thinner exterior walls. For example, a 140-square-meter house insulated with cellular plastic instead of other insulation types will gain almost 8m² of additional usable space. This makes a significant difference, especially in areas with high square meter prices.

Good Structural Properties

"We supply large quantities of PUR and PIR for facade retrofitting, and we find that customers also appreciate the material's good structural properties, which provide a solid foundation for the final wall cladding," says Kim Hansen.

Several of Tinby Skumplast’s customers were also present at the trade fair to showcase facade insulation systems incorporating PUR and PIR. Among them were Holm Huse, which markets the ISO-KON+ element system, and Briiso, which provides systems for building retrofitting.

Tinby Skumplast's polyurethane foam panels are used for insulation in refrigerated and freezer trucks, containers, and other transportation units due to the material's low weight and high compressive strength. Our goal is to reach potential customers and showcase our capabilities at the exhibition.

PURfection: New Danish-developed technology aims to create a circular solution for a widely used plastic type.

Polyurethane – also known as PUR – is used in everything from refrigerators, shoes, and mattresses to wind turbine blades and cars. This versatile plastic type makes up eight percent of global plastic production but is very difficult to recycle. Now, a number of large companies and knowledge partners are joining forces to make used PUR plastic recyclable, so it can replace fossil-based polyurethane.

Tinby x Plastic Pavilion 2023

Tinby is exhibiting at the Plastic Pavilion 2023 at the UIA World Congress of Architects in Copenhagen. Together with our sister companies, we are highlighting the importance of the indispensable properties of plastic and the role they play in building, creating, and shaping a greener future.

Tinby Skumplast A/S and Tinby A/S will merge as of June 21, 2022.

Tinby Skumplast A/S moved from Tjæreborg to Søndersø in early 2021, where Tinby A/S is located. Michael V. Therkelsen, who is the CEO of Tinby A/S, still holds the overall responsibility for the Tinby Group, including the former Tinby Skumplast A/S. Kim Holm Hansen continues to be responsible for the daily operations at Sunekær.
