Unique raw material for lightning protection systems

Tinby A/S works with the raw material PUR 1150 Solid, a polyurethane formulation with special properties for embedding electrical components. 

Functions as an electrical insulator

PUR 1150 Solid acts as a protective electrical insulator when cast around electrical components. This versatile PUR can be molded in varying thicknesses and used in custom, fully client-specific solutions.

At Tinby, we have extensive experience using PUR 1150 Solid in products where electrical conductivity needs to be reduced. The image below shows an example of a model where PUR 1150 Solid is integrated around parts of lightning protection cables.

Lightning strikes on wind turbines are a challenge for all wind turbine manufacturers. On average, a lightning strike hits a wind turbine once a year, depending on the weather conditions where the turbine is located. Lightning damage to turbine blades is an expensive matter due to downtime and repairs.

A raw material suitable for lightweight cores in wind turbine blades

PUR 150 Energy is a polyurethane blend that withstands high temperatures. The material is suitable for various types of core materials and is ideal for casting complex components in varying thicknesses.

Since the raw material results in a "tough" finished product, even very thin sections do not become brittle. This makes the component durable, impact-resistant, and easy to work with.

PUR 150 Energy is a raw material that enables the casting of large, complex components. The material is easy to process, making production cost-effective and ensuring a competitive end product. The surface is easy to sandblast and treat and can be adapted to all geometries. The material is easy to combine and fuse with other construction materials, making it ideal for the production of wind turbine blades, for example.

Within the wind turbine industry, it is used PUR 150 Energy Particularly due to its low density, durability, and easy machinability, it can be used as an alternative to materials such as balsa wood.
