"Placing the most precious thing you own on a soft bed of molded, flexible PUR requires trust in materials and chemistry. But what do we actually mean when we say that the polyurethane in Leander's Matty changing pad complies with REACH and RoHS regulations?"
Safety for you as a consumer
REACH stands for 'Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation of Chemicals' and is the EU's chemical legislation. It is known as the strictest in the world, with tight regulations that ensure consumers can safely use finished products containing flexible polyurethane.
The purpose of the legislation is, of course, to ensure that the products consumers purchase in the EU are not harmful to people or the environment. Under REACH, it is the responsibility of the industry to demonstrate that the raw materials used do not pose a risk to human health or the environment. In Denmark, the Environmental Protection Agency monitors to ensure that Danish companies do not import harmful materials.
The RoHS directive also ensures that the raw material does not contain substances that are unsuitable if the material is used in products with electronic equipment. While this is not directly relevant for the changing pad, it could be applicable in situations where the raw material is molded with electronic components, such as in the rehabilitation and healthcare sectors.
Super-soft product surfaces
Leander's Matty changing pad is made of flexible PUR, a thermoset plastic that is perfect for baby equipment, furniture parts, and products used in rehabilitation. The parts that come into contact with the user are exceptionally touch-friendly and soft. The surfaces maintain room temperature, never feeling cold, are easy to clean, and withstand daily wear and tear.
The design possibilities in flexible PUR are endless, and the material can be dyed in a wide range of modern colors.
