Disruption – a new word that has gradually found its place in the Danish language. We call it ‘disruption’ when a new technology or product unexpectedly and rapidly replaces or breaks down existing products or models. Disruption displaces an existing market, industry, or technology and replaces it with a new and better product.
It is both destructive and creative at the same time. In this way, disruption tells the story of a changing world—one we must adapt to in order to survive.
Something Is Happening
Whether it is truly disruptive when we see the trend of PUR replacing wood in the furniture industry might be a bit of an overstatement. But something does seem to be happening.
German industry has a decades-long tradition of using flexible polyurethane in the large automotive sector, where PUR is a well-known material for seat and backrest padding, cabin upholstery, soundproofing, and molded components such as instrument panels. More recently, the German furniture industry has also begun to recognize the potential of flexible PUR in design. This trend is becoming evident to our colleagues at Tinby Germany, where PUR is increasingly replacing wood and other traditional materials.
And for good reason.
PUR can be adapted to meet aesthetic requirements for color, shape, texture, and exclusive surfaces, making it an appealing material for innovative furniture designers who explore new and exciting directions.
To best meet the growing interest, Tinby has strengthened our sales organization in both Denmark and Germany, ensuring we have a team with in-depth knowledge of German culture and business practices. This guarantees that our customers receive the best possible service.
Being international is one of Tinby’s core values. By this, we mean that we collaborate with customers no matter where in the world they are, that we prioritize closeness and attentiveness despite distance, and that we embrace diversity in language, culture, perspectives, and customs.
